Transfer Application Requirements
Completion of a full semester after high school graduation.
Completion of 24 transferable credits* with a 2.7 GPA. The Admission Committee will consider the academic rigor of both the high school and college record for students with less than 24 transferable credit hours.
Completion of college-level math course or high school math sequence such as algebra I and II and geometry within the past 3 years.
Important Dates and Deadlines
August 1 – Final Deadline
Submit Final High School Transcripts or GED.
HS Transcripts must list a graduation date. They can be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Demonstrate English Proficiency
We require all applicants whose native language is not English or entire secondary education was not administered in English to adequately demonstrate English competency as a part of the application process.
SAT or ACT Scores
Submit official SAT or ACT scores (if you have fewer than 24 transferable hours to SMU). SMU won’t require standardized test scores for 2021 undergraduate applicants. We want to ease your mind about applying to SMU.
Essay, Resume, and Letters of Recommendation.
Submit extracurricular resume, personal essay, and letters of recommendation as part of your application or to email@example.com (optional, but encouraged for scholarship consideration).

We invest in the best and the brightest, if you’re seeking your first undergraduate degree and have at least 50 transferable credit hours, you are automatically considered for most of SMU’s generous transfer scholarships when you apply to SMU. These scholarships are renewable for up to five terms as a full-time student with a 3.0 SMU cumulative GPA. Don’t lose out. Apply to SMU today.
With a 3.7 minimum transferable GPA and 50 transferable credit hours, you are eligible for:
- Highly competitive scholarship
- Full-tuition scholarship for fall entry
- Essay and two to three letters of recommendation required
- Open to transfer students from community colleges in Dallas, Tarrant, Collin, Trinity Valley and Navarro counties

With a 3.5 minimum transferable GPA and 50 transferable credit hours, you are eligible for:
- $3,000 scholarship per academic year for fall, spring or summer entry
Transfer students can apply for need-based aid through the FAFSA and the CSS Profile.
