This checklist is provided to help you quickly and easily complete all required elements of your Total Orientation Process with SMU. If you have any questions, you may go back to the tutorial content to review the information. 

Before you move on to the checklist, please take a moment to on the new staff orientation tutorial.

First Day of Employment

The following were provided to you in your "Welcome to SMU" email and should be submitted to Human Resources on your first day of employment:

Directions to obtain the following will be provided at HR on your first day:

  • SMU ID
  • Parking Sticker

First Week of Employment:


Within 31 Days of first day of employment:

Within 90 days of first day of employment:

New Staff will be notified by email from Lawroom when the following training tutorials are assigned and ready to be accessed:

  • 90 Day Performance Check-in: The new employee's manager will provide feedback on the employee's progress toward the end of the probationary period via an automated email from My.SMU.  New employees and their managers should be having regular on-going conversations regarding performance and development during the probationary period and beyond.
