The English Bible Tradition

The English Bible tradition is one of the core areas of the Harrison Collection. The exhibited editions, as well as numerous lesser-known versions, document the historical progression of English Bible translation in the sixteenth through eighteenth centuries. In particular, these selections trace the controversial religious and political history of the English Bible through the publication of the King James Version in 1611. The section concludes with the handsome 1763 first edition of John Baskerville’s King James Bible.
