The Yellow Ribbon Program

SMU is proud to support our armed forces members, veterans and their families. We are participating in the Yellow Ribbon Program for the 2022-2023 academic year. Undergraduate SMU Yellow Ribbon Scholarships are offered as part of SMU-funded aid.

Eligibility for education benefits

The US Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) provides education benefits to eligible service members, veterans, and their dependents or survivors. The University Registrar's Office certifies enrollment and assists SMU students using VA educational benefits. Most academic programs at SMU qualify for VA educational benefits,* making an SMU education accessible and affordable.

In order to receive educational benefits from the VA, students must first apply for their benefits. The VA will review applications to determine eligibility. You can learn more about VA educational benefits and the application process by visiting the VA’s Education Benefits page.

*SMU does not offer Hazelwood benefits; these are only offered through public institutions in Texas.
