Workshop Facilitators

Lorea Belle Seidel

Lorea is currently the Director of Organizational Effectiveness and Associate Director of Human Resources. She works with departments, divisions, and schools to achieve their vision of excellence in serving the student population and the SMU community. Her background includes business and non-profit management as well as work in student affairs and counseling at the college level. Learning is a lifelong theme both personally and professionally for Lorea. She earned a bachelor's degree in Public Relations and Marketing, a Master's degree in Community Counseling and completed extensive additional graduate work focusing on organizational development. She has also completed certification as an executive coach.

Her areas of expertise and interest include interpersonal communications, creative thinking tools, recruitment and retention strategies, talent management, personality and work style assessment, priority management, team dynamics, leadership development, strategic planning, and positive psychology. At SMU, you will find her facilitating a wide variety of professional and managerial development workshops, partnering with departments regarding systems improvements and leadership development, serving as a member of the Employee Relations team, providing leadership and performance coaching, and promoting a culture of wellness through the Wellpower program.

Jeff Strese

Jeff has over 25 years of experience in counseling, training, and organizational consulting. As the Executive Director of Human Resources at SMU, Jeff’s focus is on leading strategic HR initiatives. He is an instructor in the Executive Education program in the Cox School of Business and in the Simmons School of Education where he teaches courses in leadership, human resource management, and change management. Jeff's Master of Education degree from the University of North Texas, along with his background in counseling, enable him to be responsive to the many nuances and sensitivities of dealing with people issues in a work environment. As a facilitator, Jeff draws upon his interpersonal communication skills to establish a training environment that produces tangible transformation with participants.

Rebecca Sampson

As HR's Senior Employee Relations Specialist, Rebecca provides consulting and coaching services for managers and employees, seeking to improve performance on the job. She serves as coordinator for the University's Threat Assessment Team and HR's Employee Relations Team. Rebecca also manages several programs designed to enhance work - life balance such as the Employee Assistance Program, Flextime/Telecommuting Program and other specialized programs. She actively promotes reward and recognition through the leadership and coordination of the Service Awards program as well as the Presidential Awards.

In the classroom, you may see Rebecca facilitating a wide variety of topics including SMU & You, Managing and Coaching for High Performance, Employee Relations Essentials, and Performance Reviews: Promoting Outstanding Performance. Her easy style and deep expertise in helping others solve performance issues makes her classes both comfortable and full of valuable concepts and techniques participants can readily put to use in their work roles.

Mary Stall

Mary draws on a diverse background in management, education, sales and marketing, to provide training and development opportunities as well as group facilitation and internal consulting. She also works with employees to develop effective interpersonal skills, time, meeting, and project management skills and coaches employees on developmental and performance management topics. Mary can often be found using visual facilitation tools to support the process work of groups at SMU. One of these tools is graphic recording and facilitation, which incorporates the use of colors, words, and images in real time documentation of the process or discussion. Graphic recording and facilitation often increases engagement, creativity, productivity, and memory recall.

Mary received her undergraduate degree from Iowa State University and a Masters of Arts in Dispute Resolution from SMU. She graduated from the Dallas Leadership Arts Institute in 2010 and currently serves on several non-profit arts boards in the North Texas region. She is a certified mediator and certified executive coach and serves as HR Specialist in Organizational Effectiveness.
