Employee Parking FAQs

Parking Assignments

Q. How is my parking location determined?

A. When purchasing a permit, benefits-eligible faculty and staff may request a preferred parking location. Parking assignments are based on available capacity at the time the permit is purchased.

Every effort is made to provide an assignment convenient to an employee's primary school or office location. If your preferred location is unavailable, you will be assigned to another available employee parking area and may join a reassignment waitlist for your preferred location.

Q. I'm a new employee. When will I receive my permanent parking assignment?

A. New employees may initially be assigned to a temporary parking location east of U.S. 75 while a permanent assignment is identified. Permanent assignments are typically made within two weeks of an employee's start date.

If you would prefer a different location after receiving your assignment, you can use the Parking Portal to join a reassignment waitlist.

Q. Can my department request a specific parking assignment for me?

A. Departments may communicate operational needs to Parking and ID Card Services; however, parking assignments and reassignment waitlists are administered consistently based on parking availability and established parking policies.

Q. Can I trade parking assignments with another employee?

A. No. Parking assignments cannot be exchanged or transferred between employees. Employees who would like a different assignment should use the reassignment waitlist process.

Reassignments and Waitlists

Q. How many parking waitlists can I join?

A. Benefits-eligible employees who currently purchase parking may join up to two waitlists at a time through the Parking Portal.

Each parking location maintains its own waitlist, and your position is determined by the date and time you joined that particular list.

Q. Do I need to renew my waitlist request each year?

A. No. Your waitlist request remains active unless you change it or receive a new parking assignment. You can view and update your waitlist preferences at any time through the Parking Portal.

Q. What happens when I accept a waitlist offer?

A. When you accept an offer:

  • Your current parking assignment is replaced by your new assignment.
  • You are removed from your other active waitlists.
  • If you would like another location in the future, you may join a new waitlist. Your position will be based on the date and time you join that list.

Q. What happens if I decline a waitlist offer?

A. You will remain in your current parking location, and you will be removed from that waitlist. You may rejoin that location's waitlist if you would like to be considered for a future opening.

Q. How quickly do parking waitlists move?

A. There is no set schedule. Waitlists move as parking assignments become available through employee departures, canceled permits, parking reassignments or other changes in parking availability.

Because turnover varies by location, some waitlists may move more quickly than others.

Q. Does joining a waitlist guarantee that I'll eventually receive that parking assignment?

A. No. A waitlist provides an opportunity to receive a preferred assignment when space becomes available, but availability and turnover vary by parking location.

You can view your active waitlists and current position at any time through the Parking Portal.

Permits and Payments

Q. Do I need to renew my employee parking permit each year?

A. If you are enrolled in payroll deduction, no action is required. Your permit is automatically renewed in August for the upcoming academic year, and your payroll deduction will continue.

Please keep your vehicle and license plate information current in the Parking Portal.

Q. Can I switch from employee parking to a DART GoPass?

A. Benefits-eligible employees may elect the annual DART GoPass benefit during the University's benefits open enrollment period in October. Employees who currently participate in employee parking and would like to receive the DART GoPass benefit should make that election during open enrollment.
