A parking permit is required to park on campus year round. Below is information on how to get the right permit for your needs.

  • Students registered for Fall 2020 may order the permit for the upcoming 2020-21 academic year online (just log on to your My Parking Account using your SMU ID and Password) Payment is made after the permit is ordered on, not on the parking website.  Student permits for Spring 2021 will be available after class registration for Spring semester open in November. 
  • Employees may obtain permits in our office or online by logging on to their Parking Portal account.  Contact us for more information at
  • Visitors can purchase permits in our office, online as a guest or use any self-pay & park location referenced on the visitor parking map (see lower right).
  • Please note Students and Employees - To help enhance application and data security, effective October 14, 2019, Duo Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) will be required to access this service.

2020-21 Academic Year

Student and Employee "Decal Permits" have been replaced by "Virtual Permits" using License Plate Recognition software to validate the permit in the system. Please review the virtual permit parking information below

Parking Summer enforcement schedule is in effect 


  • Fall Parking Rules Now in Effect

     Fall parking enforcement begins Monday, August 17th. 
    Enforcement hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday – Friday.
    Permits are required to park your car on campus year round.
    Lettered employee lots remain parking by assignment only and requires the appropriate permit. 
    Employees may also park in any AUP, Resident or Student areas with their permit.  View the campus parking map.  

  • Regular Permit and metered parking for Fall and Spring is enforced  Monday to Thursday 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. 
  • Permits are required to park your car on campus at all times all year round.
  • Students with valid SMU parking permits may park in the area corresponding to their permit description: Resident "yellow" or  non-campus resident AUP "red" on the campus parking map.
  • Lettered employee lots (Blue) remain parking by assignment only and the appropriate permit is required.
  • Employees may park in AUP or as indicated on the campus parking map for the type of permit.

Remember your license plate is what we use to validate your parking permit, so be sure to keep it up to date Log on to your parking account to update your vehicle by selecting "Vehicles" on the upper left of screen and select "View Permit" to link it to the permit.

2020 Holiday of Hope Toy Drive & Toys for Tickets

The toys collected during the drive will be donated to children at Dallas Children's Advocacy Center, a United Way service provider.

The SMU Staff Association announces the toy drive in partnership with SMU Parking and ID Card Services.

Toys for Tickets will only be accepted at the SMU Parking and ID Card Services

location in the Hughes Trigg Student Center.

This opportunity allows drivers to pay off unpaid parking tickets by donating toys of equal or greater value.  Ticket dismissal applies only unpaid SMU parking tickets issued for unauthorized parking, parking without a permit, over time parking, or improper display/vehicle registration.

To participate in the Toys for Tickets exchange, drivers must bring their parking tickets and a receipt for the toys by Monday, Nov. 23rd to the Parking and ID Card Services Office located in Hughes Trigg Student Center.

Please provide new, unused, full-size, non-violent, unwrapped toys, such as Board Games, Disney DVDs, Footballs/Basketball/Soccer Balls, Arts/Crafts, NERF Products, Remote Control Cars, Action Figures, LEGO, Barbie, Disney Dolls, Infant Toys, Baby Dolls, Leap Frog Items, Vtech Items, MP3 Player/Portable CD Player, Hair Accessories, Wallets, CDs, Bath & Body Works/Axe Gift Sets, Purses, Skateboards, PJ Pants, Jewelry/Watches, Perfumes/Cologne, or Tablets.


The Dallas Children's Advocacy Center (DCAC) coordinates the investigation and prosecution of the most severe cases of child abuse in Dallas County, serving more than 4,100 children and their non-offending family members last year. DCAC houses the Child Abuse Unit of the Dallas Police Department, five units of CPS, and a Dallas County District Attorney. Having these professionals under one roof drives collaboration and communication in the very sensitive cases that DCAC coordinates. For more information about DCAC, please visit

Parkmobile, LLC, the leading provider of on-demand and prepaid mobile payments for on- and off-street parking announced today its partnership with Southern Methodist University to provide mobile payments for metered and select parking centers on the campus.

Visitors will be able to use the app on-street throughout the campus metered parking spaces, Binkley Parking Center, Moody Parking Center and Hillcrest Parking Center using Parkmobile’s app for iPhone, Android, and Windows phones or by calling the toll-free number on the green meter stickers and signs. Parkmobile’s mobile payments system is very simple and easy to use and contact less. Use one of our parking centers on campus by printing the permit with a Park Mobile QR code online for access using the pay station to read the QR.  

Customers first must register by either downloading the mobile app in their phone’s app store, online at, or calling the toll-free number on Parkmobile signage. Need assistance contact ParkMobile Customer Service at 877-727-5457.  Once registered, they may immediately begin using the system. The hourly rate is 2.00. 




DART Transit GoPass, riders are able to commute to campus by bus and rail with public transportation that is reliable, economical and hassle free! You must be currently registered for Spring 2021 semester's classes, have a photo ID and your current US cellphone registered on your account to be eligible to download a 2021 student DART GoPass transit pass. 

Your new 2021  DART Transit GoPass will be delivered right to your cell phone. Check out what the GoPass App looks like at Just download DART's free GoPass Mobile Ticketing Application at the App Store on your cell phone and then register your device by clicking on "My Tickets" in the GoPass App. Once you’ve successfully downloaded GoPass, click here more information. The 2021 DART Transit GoPass is valid from Jan 1 to Dec 31, 2021.

The 768 SMU Express shuttles resume operating the full “In Session” schedule beginning Monday January 25th. 

The SMU Express 768 shuttles will operate the reduced “Out of Session” schedule from  November 25th through January 15th.  No Service: Christmas Day, New Years Day  January 16 -18th. Saturday service resumes January 23rd. 

The 743 Museum Express shuttle will continue to operate its route as normally scheduled except for Christmas Day and New Years Day.
