SMU by the numbers

In December 2022, SMU broke ground on the Weber End Zone Complex, a three-level, 192,500-square-foot expansion of Gerald J. Ford Stadium that will boost the total experience for Mustang football student-athletes and fans. Sparked by the largest gift in the history of SMU Athletics and other principle gift commitments, the $100 million facility is in its second fundraising phase. When construction is completed, it will support the SMU football program with modernized team-focused spaces and improved guest amenities.

Ushering in an exciting new addition to the Hilltop and Mustang Athletics, SMU celebrated the dedication of the new Washburne Soccer and Track Stadium on April 8, 2022. Led by a principal gift from Ray W. Washburne ’84 and Heather H. Washburne, the stadium was made possible by the University’s Mustang fans, generous donors and spirited alumni.

Moody Coliseum opened its doors on the SMU Campus in 1956 and has a capacity of 7,000. In the past half-century, the historic arena, home to the men’s and women’s basketball and women’s volleyball teams at SMU, has hosted collegiate stars, tennis legends, American presidents, NBA MVPs and music icons. Recently undergoing a $50 million renovation, this facility has been given a new life through significant upgrades.

The Armstrong Fieldhouse features two scoreboards, a videoboard, glass roll-up doors and translucent panels above the practice field to let in natural light. Housing the Weber Observation Deck and Loyd Field, the facility incorporates tributes to SMU’s most famous football alumni.

In the 6,700-square-foot Payne Stewart Golf Training Center, premier equipment such as the Swing Catalyst and a TrackMan system each provide real-time data that helps Mustang golfers improve their games. Amenities also include team locker rooms, coaches’ offices, a conference room, a workout center and a kitchen.
