Dr. Christopher B. Hill, PE, PhD, CRMP, joined the faculty in SMU’s Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering as a Clinical Assistant Professor in 2026 after serving as an Adjunct Professor since 2023. He teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in environmental engineering and brings more than 18 years of professional experience spanning environmental systems, energy, infrastructure, risk management, and regulatory strategy.
Dr. Hill’s career includes technical and leadership roles supporting complex projects across the oil, gas, carbon management, and broader energy sectors. He has contributed to organizations including BP Pipelines, Chesapeake Energy, and Summit Carbon Solutions, with work focused on project execution, environmental stewardship, operational planning, regulatory compliance, and stakeholder engagement. He is also the CEO and Principal Consultant of KC Hill Consulting, where he advises organizations on strategy, risk, and implementation.
At SMU, Dr. Hill is committed to connecting engineering fundamentals with real-world application. His teaching emphasizes practical problem-solving, professional responsibility, and the evolving role of engineers in building resilient, sustainable systems. Through his academic, industry, and advisory work, he is dedicated to preparing students to lead in a rapidly changing environmental and infrastructure landscape.
