Stephen Owen

Stephen Owen is a clinical assistant professor of finance at the SMU Cox School of Business. He previously served as an assistant professor of finance in the Ryan College of Business at the University of North Texas.

Owen’s research interests include empirical asset pricing and financial econometrics, with an emphasis on financial machine learning, the analysis of U.S. and international asset markets, and portfolio optimization. His teaching interests span financial management, investments, financial data analytics and the use of artificial intelligence in finance education. He has also coauthored textbooks and instructional resources in finance and business analytics.

Owen earned a Ph.D. in finance from the Smeal College of Business at Pennsylvania State University and a bachelor’s degree in economics from Brigham Young University.
