Mary Beth Hawkes

Mary Beth Hawkes is an adjunct faculty member at the SMU Cox School of Business and a certified public accountant specializing in mergers and acquisitions tax. Her work at KPMG focuses on the tax implications of changes in corporate ownership, stock basis, and earnings and profits.

As a manager in KPMG’s mergers and acquisitions tax practice, Hawkes oversees ownership change studies under Section 382 of the Internal Revenue Code and reviews related tax calculations and analyses. She also guides staff in preparing financial workpapers and works with clients throughout the engagement process. Earlier in her career, she served as a teaching assistant at the University of Mississippi.

Hawkes earned a Master of Taxation from the University of Mississippi and a Bachelor of Arts in accounting from Rhodes College. She is a certified public accountant in Texas.
