Biography
Mr. Dannis has been a real estate appraiser and consultant since 1972. He co-founded the Dallas-based firm Crosson Dannis, Inc. in 1977. For over 35 years, the firm provided real estate appraisal and consultation services throughout the U.S. for many of the nation’s largest real estate lenders and owners. In January, 2015, Chuck and the other CDI professionals joined National Valuation Consultants, Inc., based in Denver, Co., to create one of the country's largest privately held real estate appraisal and consulting firms.
He is past Chair of the National Council of Real Estate Investment Fiduciaries' (“NCREIF”) Valuation Committee and past Treasurer and Member of its Board ( 1997-2001 and 2015-2023); he was then elected its Chairman of the Board (2020-22.) He has been an instructor for its “ Nuts and Bolts (Essentials) of Institutional Real Estate Academy” since its inception in 2002. A frequent lecturer, Mr. Dannis also hosted a weekly talk radio show, “The Real Estate Hour,” on the CBS Radio affiliate, KRLD, from 1992 to 2008; and then again 2020-2022. He has written numerous published articles.
From 2003 to 2006, he was appointed by the Mayor to the seven member Real Estate Task Force for the City of Dallas. In 2002 and 2008, he was appointed Chairman of the Economic Review Panel for the City of Dallas’ Historic Landmark Commission. As an award winning Adjunct Professor of Practice in Real Estate, Chuck has taught real estate markets and valuation at the SMU Cox School of Business since 1988.
Mr. Dannis was an independent director of TIER REIT thru 2017 and was Chairman of the Board in 2013-15. Mr. Dannis is Chairman Emeritus of The Dallas Marathon and the 2011 recipient of its Victory Award For Excellence . He has also served on the boards of The Friends of The Katy Trail ,The Shelton School in Dallas ( an internationally known school for children that learn differently) and The Folsom Institute for Real Estate at SMU Cox School of Business ( its first Distinguished Alumni Award recipient).In 2016, he received the Dr. William Kinnard Award from the Appraisal Institute's Educational Trust for his professional contributions to the field of real estate appraisal. In 2019, he received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the North Texas Commercial Association of Realtors for his community service and commitment to the commercial real estate industry. In 2008, he was the proud recipient of the Commandant of the Marine Corps Quality Citizen Award. He is a DCEO Magazine’s top 500 Most Influential North Texas Business Leaders in 2023 and 2024.
