Biographical Note:

Philip Zelikow served as counselor of the Department of State from 2005 to 2007. Before this appointment, Dr. Zelikow served as executive director of the 9/11 Commission, and as a member of George W. Bush's Foreign Advisory Board (2001-03). Prior to the George W. Bush administration, Zelikow worked both in government and in the academic world, including as a member of the National Security Council (in the George H.W. Bush administration) and as a professor at Harvard University and the University of Virginia. Dr. Zelikow earned his Ph.D. in international relations from Tufts University.
