With a prime location in Dallas, arguably the country's most important and dynamic real estate city, the real estate program of SMU Cox School of Business is an important part of our academic offerings. Academic and research initiatives of the department are supported by the The Robert and Margaret Folsom Institute for Real Estate. The department offers real estate, insurance and business law courses taught by award-winning faculty in both the graduate and undergraduate programs.
MBA students can choose a concentration or minor in real estate as part of the MBA program. MBA students also can participate in several extracurricular activities that augment their time spent in the classroom. Our graduates begin careers in investment banking, development, acquisitions, and real estate investment private equity. An MBA minor in Real Estate can be achieved by completing a set of four required real estate courses plus two core courses offered by the finance and accounting departments. An MBA concentration in real estate can be achieved by completing the requirements for the minor, plus two elective courses from the finance department.
