Accepted Students

Welcome Parents!

We look forward to having you as part of the Mustang Family. This page is for you.  We will update it periodically with the latest and most important information that is helpful for you as the parent of a future Mustang!  Please also be sure to view the comprehensive list of "Next Steps" for students found here.

Parents, please click here to download the New Student Checklist. This is a checklist of items that students who have paid their deposit need to complete before they start classes this fall.

Take advantage of one of the many visit opportunities available this spring and explore the possibilities for your student at SMU.

We strive to reward your student’s academic achievement and consider your family’s financial circumstances as we work with you to support your student’s educational goals. If you have not already done so, apply for need-based financial aid by February 15 for priority consideration.

Submit the FAFSA
For U.S. and dual citizens and permanent residents to be eligible for federal and state sources of aid, the first step is to submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. Make sure SMU is listed as your student’s school of choice on the FAFSA. SMU’s school code is 003613. Submit your FAFSA by February 15 for priority consideration for need-based awards.

Submit the CSS/PROFILE®
For SMU-funded awards, you also must submit a College Scholarship Service (CSS) PROFILE® financial aid application to the College Board. This application will give our financial aid advisors more information to further assess your family’s need-based financial aid. Make sure SMU is listed as your student’s school of choice on the application, and use the code 6660. Submit your CSS/PROFILE® by February 15 for priority consideration for need-based awards.

As you start to make plans for your student's first semester at SMU, you are probably curious about the orientation process for first-year students.  All students are required to attend both an Academic Advising and Registration Orientation (AARO) in July and Mustang Corral, a student retreat, in August before the Fall semester begins.  You will receive detailed information and registration instructions for these programs in the coming weeks.

The start of school is an exciting time for new college students, but it can also be challenging as they make the transition. Here is a checklist from SMU Parent Liaison, Deanie Kepler, of things to do and discuss this summer before your student heads out.
