SMU Guildhall Student Advising and Resources

Our program offers many resources for SMU Guildhall students as they enroll and during their time in our program. This includes financial aid, enrollment services, career planning, health services, and more. 

Student Advising

Student Success

  • Master of Interactive Technology students: Matt O'Neill serves as the MIT Student Success Advisor. He is the go-to person for anything outside the classroom that might affect a student's success including navigating academic enrollment, wellness, and resource access.
  • BA in Game Development students: Meadows School of the Arts provides undergraduate B.A. advising. Contact msa_sas@smu.edu or call 214-768-2754 to connect with an undergraduate advisor.
  • Financial Aid: Along with SMU Financial Aid, our advisors help students with financial decisions and understanding available options. See our Financial Information page for more information.
  • Housing: Finding a place to live around campus is an easy process with many apartment communities nearby, and our advisors can help guide you to your best options. For more information, see our housing page.

Academic Advising

  • Master of Interactive Technology students: Steve Stringer serves as the Academic Advisor for our MIT students. He is the go-to person for support on program requirements and progression, academic policy, and student capstone project advising.

  • Academic Resources: Our Academic CalendarCanvas, and the Guildhall Wiki offer helpful course details and documentation. The Guildhall Wiki includes information used in a variety of courses and student needs including our student handbook, TGP guidelines resources and guidelines, How-To articles, drive instructions, retrospectives, and much more. SMU's Student Academic Engagement and Success also provides a number of academic-related support systems for disability, academic counseling, university advising, and more.

Career Advising

  • Master of Interactive Technology students: SMU Guildhall's in-house Career Services provides advanced support for our MIT students as they prepare for employment in the gaming industry. Past students have gone to work at hundreds of studios and tech companies around the world. 
  • BA in Game Development students: Hegi Career Center provides undergraduate career advising for undergraduates at SMU. Contact a Hegi representative at hegicareercenter@smu.edu or call 214-768-2266.

Campus Resources

  • Student Accounts: my.SMU allows you to manage your SMU student account details.
  • International Student Services: International Student & Scholar Services provides immigration services, advocacy, and support to students on F or J visas.
  • Support Services: SMU offers a variety of support programs to help students navigate academic and personal difficulties including bias, hazing, harassment, and more.
  • Campus Events: SMU360 is the events hub for all campus events. You can navigate directly to Guildhall future events here, as well as see what's upcoming on our News and Events page. You can also review our Academic Calendar for important academic and deadline dates, and review our list of annual events for a peek at some of the showcases and events that are held and hosted by SMU Guildhall each year.
  • Mental and Physical Health: Students are encouraged to take advantage of SMU's plentiful health-related amenities, including:
    • The Dr. Bob Smith Health Center, which offers consultations with physicians, sports medicine, women's health, dermatology, counseling, dental, and a pharmacy for prescriptions.
    • The Dedman Center for Lifetime Sports, which is home to a number of recreational sports including Dedman Pool, climbing, basketball, volleyball, badminton, pickleball, indoor soccer, table tennis, Yoga, indoor track, billiards/shuffleboard, and stationary cycling.
    • SMU Counseling, which offers supports the mental health of students through staff counselors, a network of mental health providers, and self-help resources.
    • SMU Wellbeing Education, which hosts campus workshops, classes, and outreach events to encourage everyday whole-self wellbeing as well as resources for substance abuse, harm reduction, and recovery.
