The center's main goal is to connect students with professors and industry professionals in ways that create energy and deepen integrity. It was named for an inspirational Cox professor by former student David Miller, MBA '13, who went on to become managing director of EnCap Investments.
The Maguire Energy Institute and Kyle D. Miller Energy Management Program promote the study of policy, marketing and management issues related to oil, natural gas, electricity and renewables.
Each year, a select group of smart, highly-motivated juniors make it into this center's training program. Students get a hands-on foundation in investment banking and hedge fund investing strategies, and connect with industry pros through events and internships.
The Kitt Center is where Cox students get hands-on experience of the trading floor. With its bank of dual-display Bloomberg Professional terminals and workstations, it's designed to integrate financial data and technology into the finance curriculum and boost innovative research.
At the SMU Cox School of Business, our faculty are leading scholars in finance, publishing cutting-edge research in financial market design, corporate governance, tax policy, asset pricing, mergers and acquisitions, institutional investors and many other areas.

Professor
Which qualifications matter when it comes to a board of directors? To what extent do public firms' managers listen to the market in making major corporate investments? James Linck, finance department chair and distinguished chair in finance, has been asking tough questions and challenging perceived knowledge throughout his 20 years of research on corporate finance, governance and control.
Professor
Darius Miller has a passion that's contagious. The focus of his passion — and his award-winning research — is international finance. The Caruth Chair in Finance, he has published widely in the leading journals, contributing papers on financial market regulation, corporate governance and financial disclosure.
Associate Professor
In testimony before the U.S. Senate, Jerome Powell, Chairman of the Federal Reserve, said fixed-income markets "...perform important functions in our economy and it is imperative that we understand the significant changes they are currently undergoing.” As Powell discussed factors driving these changes, he cited research in the Journal of Finance by SMU Cox finance professors William (Bill) Maxwell, Stacey Jacobsen and Kumar Venkataraman as evidence.
