Information about CAPE IDs
We are pleased to announce CAPE ID (formerly known as NetID), a single sign on solution that will allow SMU CAPE students to use the same username (CAPE ID) and password across CAPE systems like your student portal and CAPE Canvas.
Starting December 1, 2021, all new SMU CAPE student accounts will automatically be assigned a CAPE ID, which is an auto-generated username based on your first and last initials plus a random 4-digit number (ex. John Smith's SMU CAPE ID: js1145).
If your account was created prior to December 1, 2021, you will need to transition your account to use CAPE ID. This will allow you to log in to your student portal and CAPE Canvas using the same username (CAPE ID) and password. See the transition instructions below.

Transition your existing CAPE student account
If you have an older account with SMU CAPE and do not know your CAPE ID, it is possible your account has not yet been transitioned to the new CAPE ID system. Contact our office at smuthink@smu.edu or 214-768-2273 to transition your account.Reset your CAPE ID Password
To reset your CAPE ID password, visit the password reset page and enter your e-mail address, CAPE ID or CAPE Student Number (X-Number) to request a password reset link. (see below)

Recovering your CAPE ID
When your account was created or transitioned to a CAPE ID, an e-mail containing your CAPE ID was sent to you.
If you forgot your CAPE ID and need to look it up, you can request an email containing your CAPE ID using our CAPE ID recovery tool.
