Julie Rinker Biography

Julie Rinker joined the SMU community as a M. Ed. student in 2015.

After 9 years as a K-12 public school educator, she joined the Academic Development of Student Athletes office in 2023. She has earned certifications as a Certified Academic Language Therapist, a Wilson Dyslexia Therapist, and as a Wilson Dyslexia Trainer. She used this experience to certify dyslexia practitioners and therapists in the Wilson Reading System for Dallas Independent School District. As a Southern-California native, she earned her bachelor’s degree in political science at Wheaton College in the Chicago area. In her current role as a Literacy Specialist, she provides academic language therapy to students with a human rights focus.

In her free time, she works to increase her expertise as a human rights educator and likes to exercise outdoors when the Texas’ extreme weather is at its gentlest.
