About
Martha Velez serves as Project Coordinator for the AEP Fellowship and leads classroom observations for the Applied Playful Learning (APL) National Project through SMU's Center on Research and Evaluation (CORE).
Prior to joining SMU in 2024, Martha spent 16 years as an educator, instructional coach, and administrator in Irving ISD and Denton ISD, where she gained extensive experience in professional learning, curriculum development, program implementation, and evaluation.
In her current work, Martha supports research-practice partnerships focused on expanding educational opportunities and improving outcomes for students and educators. Martha is a proud Oak Cliff native and continues to serve her community through partnerships with local nonprofits and Dallas ISD committees. She earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at Austin and her graduate degree from Lamar University.
