About the Program

The SMU Mission Foods Texas–Mexico Center is a research center dedicated to strengthening ties between Texas and Mexico through research, policy, and dialogue. The Center hosts events that bring together experts and professionals to discuss the economic, political, and social issues shaping the Texas–Mexico relationship.

The Student Ambassador Program brings this work to the student level, giving Ambassadors the opportunity to plan and develop their own event focused on Texas–Mexico affairs. Through the program, students will gain hands-on event planning experience, valuable leadership and professional skills, and exclusive networking opportunities with speakers and professionals.

How to Become a Student Ambassador

1. Submit Your Application 

Interested students are encouraged to complete the online Student Ambassador application by Monday, November 16, 2026. The application provides an opportunity to share your interests, experiences, and motivation for joining the program.

2. In-Person Interviews

Following the application deadline, selected applicants will be invited to participate in an in-person interview to discuss their interests and potential contributions to the program.

3. Ambassador Selection

Following the interview process, 6–10 students will be selected to serve as Student Ambassadors for the Spring 2027 semester. Selected students will have the opportunity to collaborate, develop leadership skills, and help organize a student-led event focused on Texas–Mexico affairs.
