Biography

Dr. Smith-Colin’s research advances the cross-cutting themes of equity, sustainability, and resilience in civil infrastructure management, with a specific focus on multi-modal transportation systems. The Smith-Colin Research Group uses system dynamics modeling, spatial analysis, and transportation data analysis to plan and design socially sustainable and resilient infrastructure, conduct equity-based analysis of emerging transportation technologies, and to examine transportation as social-determinant of health. Dr. Smith-Colin’s engineering education research integrates community-based participatory research and design thinking to solve civil engineering problems facing underserved groups. Dr. Smith-Colin is a member of the Transportation Research Board Standing Committee on Transportation Planning Analysis and Application (AEP15). She is also a Jr. Editor for the American Society of Civil Engineers Journal of Infrastructure Systems. Her research has been funded by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine, and has been published in peer-reviewed journals. She is a licensed professional engineer.
