Honors Health Sciences
Honors Health Sciences
The Honors Health Sciences program will be a cohort-based experience for new students with an expressed interest in majoring in Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Applied Physiology and Health Management (APHM), starting Fall 2026.
These students will complete an honors curriculum that builds the scientific foundation essential for advanced study in these majors.
Office of Pre-Health Advising
Pre-Health students major in a variety of disciplines and pursue admission to dental, medical, optometry, pharmacy, physical therapy, physician assistant, and veterinary medicine professional programs. The Pre-Health program consists of individual and group advising, developmental workshops, guest speakers, shadowing opportunities, a flexible curriculum, and multiple Pre-Health student organizations.

Undergraduate Research
At SMU, students interested in health and human well-being explore their interests through hands-on research, faculty mentorship, and real-world problem solving. Some students pursue medical school, others build careers in public health, research, health technology, or health policy. Undergraduate research helps students discover where they want to make an impact.
Students interested in health-related research may participate in:
- First Year Research Experience (FYRE)
- Engaged Learning Starter Award (ELSA)
- Undergraduate Research Assistant (URA)
- Summer Research Internship (SRI)
- Engaged Learning Fellowship (ELF)
The Office of Engaged Learning (OEL) empowers undergraduate students to expand their learning beyond the classroom through these opportunities.
