Getting Started

Anthology Planning replaced WEAVE as SMU's strategic planning software in Spring 2023.

We conduct unit-level assessment for each of SMU's administrative and academic student support units on campus. As a part of the regular strategic planning, university staff of each department determine a set of three (3) key Unit Goals (UGs) specific to the mission of that office. They then assess the extent to which the various programs or activities achieve those goals, review the results of assessment findings and plan strategic and continuous improvement. The assessment report should serve as a living historical document tailored to show the good work and continuous improvement efforts undertaken by the unit.

The Office of Institutional Planning and Effectiveness (IPE) recommends a phased approach to completing the annual assessment report throughout the academic year:

  • Plan: Review and/or update program mission statement and unit goals and their associated measures and targets.
  • Do: Collect data for the unit goals being evaluated.
  • Check: Review results and reflect on findings for the unit goals being evaluated.
  • Act: Establish and implement action plans for unmet targets, and provide a status update on the previous year's action plan(s).

The annual deadline to complete program assessment reports in Anthology Planning is July 31st.

Note: Beginning August 1, 2024, Unit Objectives (UOs) will be renamed Unit Goals (UGs) to better align with support unit terminology.
