Professor Carla L. Reyes Appointed to CFTC Innovation Advisory Committee
DALLAS (SMU) — Associate Professor of Law Carla L. Reyes has been appointed as the academic representative to the Commodity Futures Trading Commission’s Innovation Advisory Committee.
The committee advises the CFTC on emerging technologies impacting U.S. financial markets, including blockchain and artificial intelligence. Professor Reyes, a nationally recognized scholar in commercial law and technology governance, brings deep expertise in blockchain, secured transactions, corporate governance, and AI regulation to the role.
At SMU Dedman School of Law, Reyes teaches Secured Transactions, Blockchain Law & Policy, and Artificial Intelligence & the Law. Prior to joining SMU, she served as Director of the Center for Law, Technology & Innovation at Michigan State University College of Law and practiced in the Blockchain Technology & Digital Currency group at Perkins Coie LLP. Her scholarship focuses on the modernization of commercial law systems in response to emerging technologies.
Her appointment reflects SMU Law’s growing national leadership in business law and financial innovation.
