Kim Murphy Joins Child Advocacy Clinic at Law Fellow and Staff Attorney

Kim MurphyThe Clinic is pleased to announce that Kim Murphy is our new Law Fellow and Staff Attorney. Her responsibilities include providing legal advice and representing current and former foster youth in legal matters, conducting legal Know Your Rights sessions for foster youth during Preparation for Adult Living classes, providing training and mentorship for pro bono attorneys, and assisting in training and supervising student attorneys in cases involving older foster youth.

Prior to joining the Clinic, Kim worked as a supervisor for Dallas CASA coaching and monitoring volunteers assigned to advocate for children in child protection lawsuits and assisting with pre-service training of incoming advocates. Before her time at Dallas CASA, Kim spent 16 years as a Dallas County employee, first as an Assistant Public Defender, then as an Assistant District Attorney and finally as an Assistant Public Defender Supervisor with the entire focus on representing various parties in child welfare litigation.

Kim is certified as a Child Welfare Law Specialist by the National Association of Counsel for Children and is certified to mediate general civil, family and child welfare cases. She is also a member of the Texas State Bar College and serves on the Texas Supreme Court Children’s Commission Task Force on Court Appointed Legal Representation. Her connection to Dallas CASA has continued through her service as a volunteer advocate.

Ms. Murphy received a B.A. from the University of Texas at Arlington in 1983 and her J.D. from the SMU Dedman School of Law in 1988.

We are pleased to have her on board to help us serve the vulnerable “aging and aged out” foster youth population.
