Applications for the NexPoint Tower Scholars Class of 2030 will open September 1, 2026.
Apply by December 1, 2026, to receive priority consideration.
The final application deadline is February 1, 2027.

Apply to Become a NexPoint Tower Scholar
Program applicants must:
- Be a current first-year freshmen at SMU
- Have a minimum 3.3 GPA for the fall semester
- Complete the application form which includes
- short answer responses
- personal essay (500 word max)
- resume

Have at least 1 letter of recommendation submitted on your behalf. At least one of the letters MUST be from an SMU faculty member who has taught the applicant.
- Students are responsible for making sure their recommenders submit the letter on time using the form below.
Personal Essay Prompt (included in application):
As an applicant to the Tower Scholars Program, please explain your interest in adding the study of public policy and international affairs to your undergraduate education. (500-word limit) *
In your answer please include:
- One specific experience, activity, or interest (research paper, work experience, policy issue or political project) that has led to your interest in this program.
- Your long-range educational and professional objectives.
- How you think the NexPoint Tower Scholars Program will help you meet those objectives.
The Tower Scholars Program invites first-year students from across the university to apply.
