Graduate Student Awards

Graduate students in the SMU Mathematics Department are eligible for the following awards, given in recognition of excellence for their work in helping to teach undergraduate students.

 

Betty McKnight Speairs Graduate Student Award

The Betty McKnight Speairs Graduate Student Award in Mathematics was established in 1998 to provide one or more awards each year to recognize mathematics graduate students of Dedman College serving as teaching assistants and demonstrating noteworthy or exemplary dedication, outside of the classroom, to helping first-year or sophomore undergraduate students enrolled in mathematics classes to understand mathematical concepts.  It is funded by an endowment given by Betty McKnight Speairs.

Carrie and Edwin Mouzon Graduate Teaching Award

This cash award is given to the best graduate teaching assistant in the Department of Mathematics.  It is funded by an endowment given in honor and memory of Dr. Edwin Mouzon, a distinguished SMU Department of Mathematics faculty professor from 1922-71 who served as Chair from 1934-63.
