Established in honor of Dr. Edwin Mouzon, a distinguished professor in SMU’s Department of Mathematics from 1922 to 1971 who served as department chair from 1934 to 1963, this scholarship supports students who demonstrate exceptional promise in mathematics.
The scholarship is awarded to incoming first-year students or students who declare a mathematics major at their earliest opportunity. Candidates should have an excellent mathematics background and demonstrate strong interest and potential in the field. Students who receive the scholarship upon admission to SMU may receive support for up to eight regular semesters or until graduation, whichever comes first.
Established to support students pursuing a degree in mathematics who demonstrate academic ability, determination and a strong commitment to their education. A mathematics alumna and scholarship recipient herself, Troitskaya created the scholarship to provide future SMU students with the same kind of opportunity that helped shape her education and career.
Established by Robert Strow, a professor in SMU’s Department of Mathematics from 1946 to 1982 who continued teaching as a part-time instructor until 1994, this scholarship supports current SMU students who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in mathematics and chosen to pursue a mathematics major.
Eligible students should have a strong record of achievement in their first- and second-year mathematics courses. Scholarship recipients work with the mathematics advisor to develop a plan for completing the major, with scholarship support typically covering the regular semesters required to complete that plan.
