  • Minor

    Are you seeking to strengthen your business skills?

    The Cox Minor in Business curriculum is designed to provide non-business students with a solid foundation in business basics to complement their primary areas of academic interest. There are no GPA-based admission criteria for this program or its individual classes. Classes are offered throughout the academic year.   

    Minor in Business Curriculum

    The Minor in Business is an 18-credit-hour program in which students take four required courses and two upper level elective business courses. 

    In addition to the two upper level business elective classes, the following required courses make up the Minor in Business:

    • ACCT 2301 Introduction to Financial Accounting
    • FINA 3320 Financial Management
    • MKTG 3340 Fundamentals of Marketing
    • MNO 3370 Management of Organizations 

  • Honors in Business

    Push your limits with honors courses that will challenge your intellect and polish your professional skills. You'll forge strong bonds with your professors and classmates while you test your mettle in intimate classes and practicums.

    Cox School BBA honors courses include:

    Senior-Level Practicum in Portfolio Management Apply the concepts of equity research, valuation and portfolio management as you step up to manage the $3 million Ann Rife Cox Investment Fund.

    Senior-Level Marketing Practicum In a standing partnership with Fox Sports, students develop real-world marketing plans to bolster the sports network's presence in the Southwest.

    Core business courses in accounting, statistics, information systems, business law and more. Cox majors with at least a 3.500 GPA (in the business subset) and 3.500 SMU GPA overall are eligible to take most honors business courses, although some require a separate application. Students must maintain a 3.500 GPA in their business honors courses to remain in the program. Students that complete at least six business honors courses equaling at least 18 credit hours (12 hours of which must be at the junior or senior levels) with a 3.50 business honors GPA and a 3.50 cumulative SMU GPA will receive the “Honors in Business” distinction on their transcript and diploma.
