Mandatory University Fees 2026-2027

Mandatory Fees - per semester (2026-2027) 

 All SMU students are charged mandatory University fees in addition to tuition. These fees support campus services, facilities, and student programs.

 

 

$338 per credit hour (applies to all students)
$4,040 flat rate for 12 or more credit hours
Supports campus organizations and overhead costs for student activities and programming.
Sports pack included for students paying the flat rate.

Undergraduate (Not residing in residence hall)
Full-time (12 or more credit hours) - $140  
Part-time (1-11 credit hours) - $80
Graduate (Not residing in residence hall)
All (credit hours) - $140
Summer (all students)
Enrolled Undergraduate and Graduate - $60
Enrolled in upcoming semester - $60
Supports health center services, counseling, and wellness programs.

$10 per term
The Student Media Fee supports the creation, production, and publication of news, arts, culture, business, and sports stories across three student-media outlets and expands the options for SMU students to contribute content.

Non-refundable Fee charged each semester - $125
Fee supports the programming budget for ISSS which pays for international student orientation, immigration education programs, International Education week, student leadership development, etc.

This mandatory health insurance policy requires domestic students, both undergraduate and graduate, enrolled in nine or more credit hours to maintain insurance coverage as a condition of enrollment. All international students enrolled in one or more credit hours must enroll in the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP), unless they receive a special waiver personally granted by the SMU Insurance Department.

Mandatory fees are non-refundable after the start of the term, even if a student withdraws or changes enrollment.
