About
Catherine joined SMU’s Center on Research and Evaluation (CORE) as a Program Coordinator in 2022. Prior to joining CORE, Catherine served as a Teach For America corps member and worked in the public school setting as a bilingual teacher, interventionist, and dyslexia specialist.
Catherine is committed to the pursuit of systems-wide change for educational, racial, and socioeconomic equity. She is experienced in providing professional development to educators regarding racial equity, culturally responsive teaching practices, and bilingual instruction. She also has experience with several nonprofits and out-of-school organizations.
As an undergraduate student, she received a research fellowship at the University of Washington’s Center on Politics and Public Policy where she conducted research on Asian American political participation. Her current research interests include educational equity, literacy, and bilingual education. Catherine holds an M.Ed. with a specialization in Bilingual Education from Southern Methodist University and received a B.A. in Political Science and a B.A. in Spanish from the University of Washington.
