About

Jessica Murillo, M.Ed. is Assistant Director of The Budd Center in The Simmons School of Education and Human Development. She will serve as data and project analyst supporting the West Dallas STEM School team and focus on executing the vision of The Budd Center of convening and connecting SMU and the surrounding community to partner schools.

Prior to joining SMU, Jessica was a district literacy coach and has served in PK-12 education as a Dean of Instruction, Principal in Residence, Instructional Coach and assessment and special programs Coordinator. Jessica began her career in education as a secondary bilingual classroom teacher in Dallas. Her scholarly interests in data-informed instruction and intervention, culturally relevant teaching and learning and bilingual literacy have driven her work in school systems improvement and teacher development and efficacy. Jessica Murillo received a Master’s Degree in Education in Urban School Leadership from Southern Methodist University. She earned a Master’s Degree as an Instructional Specialist in Social Studies Teaching and Learning and BA in University Studies from the University of Texas at El Paso.

Jessica’s professional affiliations include Pi Lambda Theta Honor Society, SMU Rising Latino Leaders, SMU/ Teaching Trust Aspiring Leaders.
