International Travels

International travel, research, and collaborations can trigger U.S. export control regulation, even for seemingly routine activities.  It is important to understand these regulations to avoid potential civil and criminal penalties.  If you’re traveling internationally, especially with university-owned items or for university business, or if you’re collaborating with foreign nationals or entities, you need to carefully assess the potential export control implications.

For more information about securing your technology during your travels, please contact OIT Research Security.  For assistance in evaluating potential export control regulations contact the Export Control Officer at researchcompliance@smu.edu.

Please note: All international travel must be registered with SMU Global Safety & Security. A Concur Travel Request must be routed for approval and uploaded into Safeture.  Safeture will send an automated email to complete the mandatory Pre-Travel Form and the assigned Travel Risk Awareness e-Learning.  The trip is not fully approved until completion of the Pre-Travel Form. For assistance or questions, contact Risk Management at riskmanagement@smu.edu or 214-768-2083.
