Research Contracts

The Office of Research and Innovation (ORI) reviews, negotiates, and routes research contracts for the signature of SMU’s Authorized Organizational Representative.

Research contracts managed by ORI include agreements to accept external funding (examples: incoming subawards, cooperative agreements, and sponsored research agreements), agreements to fund certain allowable research expenses (examples: outgoing subawards, research services agreements and/or consultant agreements), non-funded agreements in support of research (examples: non-disclosure agreements, data sharing and use agreements, and material transfer agreements).

Principal Investigators and other SMU research personnel do not have the authority to sign research contracts.
