Baptist House Events
The BHS organizes, hosts and sponsors events that seek to deepen our understanding of ministry. From informal monthly lunches with special guest speakers to a two-day conference on sacred storytelling, we work to make BHS events informative, expansive, and inclusive.
The BHS is also proud to also partner with organizations like Baptist Women in Ministry, Fellowship Southwest, Baptist Joint Committee, Faith Commons, Nevertheless She Preached and other denominational bodies to sponsor and elevate the good work of others.
Special Events
Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at 11:00 am: Join us for a conversation with David Henderson. We will discuss empathy, persuasion, and social justice.
Perkins student David Henderson is also a civil rights attorney, a partner at Ellwanger Law, and an adjunct professor at the University of Texas School of Law. He has appeared on news programs to comment on civil rights cases. His commitment to ending systemic injustice is demonstrated in his work and his words.
Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at 11:00 am: Join us for a conversation with Dr. Lewis Brogden about justice and eschatology.
Dr. Brogdon is a highly sought public speaker who serves as the Associate Professor of New Testament and Black Church Studies and Executive Director of the Institute for Black Church Studies at BSK Theological Seminary.
In The Gospel Beyond the Grave, he reimagines Christian eschatology through the lens of Black suffering, survival, and theological insight. It’s not just a critique—it’s a constructive vision that dares to ask: what does ultimate justice look like in light of the brutal history of slavery, racism, and white complicity?
Thursday, February 26, 2026, at 10 am: Join us for a conversation with Jay Kieve and Andy Hale, followed by Chapel and lunch. In addition to answering any questions, they will be talking with individuals about opportunities to serve in CBF/CBFNC congregations.
Jay Kieve is the Abuse Prevention and Response Advocate and Director of Ministerial Transitions at the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship. He helps connect ministers with vocational opportunities. He is also a safeguarding specialist for GRACE (Godly Response to Abuse in a Christian Environment) and a facilitator for Darkness to Light’s “Stewards of Children.” He also leads the CBF Behavioral Threats Assessment and Management team.
Andy Hale is the associate executive coordinator of CBF of North Carolina. His responsibilities include leading the Helping Churches Thrive initiative, developing innovative ministries with young adults and college students, starting new faith communities, facilitating ministerial transitions, and collaborating with CBFNC ministry staff.
Chapel Services
At least once a semester, the BHS plans the weekly chapel service in Perkins Chapel. Inviting a wide variety of Baptist and Free Church preachers and musicians, we enjoy sharing a service from our unique perspective as Baptists and Free Church folks.

BHS Lunches
Once a month, the BHS hosts a lunch gathering with a special guest speaker to share about their unique ministerial context. Speakers have included a spiritual director, the owner of a sustainable farming retreat center, a community organizer, nonprofit leaders, publishers, and others.
Sponsored Events
The BHS is proud to sponsor the good work of our ministry partners including Fellowship Southwest, Baptist Women in Ministry, Nevertheless She Preached, Association of Welcoming and Affirming Baptists, American Baptists, Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, and Alliance of Baptists.

Celebratory Events
At the beginning and end of each semester we gather to celebrate what is, what has been, and what is to come.
