This Academy is funded through a generous grant from the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC). The grant pays all expenses for you, the champions of the Senior Division Texas Science and Engineering Fair, to attend the weeklong Academy.
The Scholarship includes:
- Free Registration for the Camp
- Free Room in SMU Dorms
- Free Meals
- Free research materials for the Academy
Participants will spend 5 days and 5 nights living on the SMU campus working with SMU professors and students on cutting edge research.
Each student will pick from one of the following research strands:
Hardware Hacking: Participants in this strand will investigate the many ways that hackers can intrude into networks and computer systems. This strand will focus on Hardware Hacking using FPGAs and Verilog software. Students will be able to use a number of modeling programs to observe cyber-attacks and how to prevent them.
Nanobots: Participants in this strand will investigate nano robots and how they promise to be able to treat currently untreatable conditions and diseases through a “Fantastic Voyage” through our bodies. The Participants will learn about the unique environment of the body and the unusual forces that can be used for nanorobotics locomotion.
Drones: Unmanned Aerial Systems (UASs), better known as drones, are new tools for a variety of research. This strand will focus on the use of UAS vehicles to do research on the efficiency of radio signals passing between cell towers. Participants will also research the use of UAS for mapping and identifying urban food deserts and infrastructure deserts.
Machine Learning and AI: Explore the many new ways that machine learning is being used to create Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications in a wide variety of fields. You will explore several current AI platforms and learn how they were developed.
Human Signal Processing: The human body has electrical systems that give off very weak signals. When the signals are captured, they often lead to information about the person’s health. During this research strand you will collect brain waves and use them for non-invasive diagnostic purposes.
