Professor Christine Hurt Elected to American Law Institute
Christine Hurt, Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, Alan R. Bromberg Centennial Chair in Corporate, Partnership, Business and Securities Law, and Professor of Law, has been elected as a member of the American Law Institute. Professor Hurt is a leading business law scholar, recognized for her work in securities and corporate governance.
The American Law Institute is the leading independent organization in the United States, producing scholarly work to clarify, modernize, and otherwise improve the law. By participating in the Institute’s work, members can influence the development of the law in both existing and emerging areas; work with other eminent lawyers, judges, and academics; give back to a profession to which they are deeply dedicated; and contribute to the public good.
Members are elected to ALI and not simply enrolled, based on professional achievement and their interest in improving the law. To be considered for membership, a current ALI member must submit a nomination, and two others must second it. The Institute then votes on election. This deliberative process means membership often comes after lawyers have built a record of excellence, making inclusion a recognized mark of distinction.
“The election of new members is among the most important responsibilities of the Institute because it renews and strengthens the exchange of ideas that makes our work possible,” said ALI President Wallace B. Jefferson. “As I welcome my first class of new members as President, I do so with optimism and appreciation for the perspectives they will bring to the Institute. I look forward to seeing the meaningful ways these distinguished lawyers, judges, and scholars will contribute to the Institute's projects, ensuring that ALI continues to serve the legal profession and the public.”
Most recently, Professor Hurt has had several articles on corporate governance published in scholarly journals, including:
• Texas, Delaware, and the New Controller Primacy, 67 Arizona Law Review 693 (2025)
• The Contractarian Joint Venture, 76 Alabama Law Review 741 (2025) (Carla L. Reyes)
