Lolita Buckner Inniss has published a chapter titled “The Lucky Law Professor and the Eucatastrophic Moment,” in Carmen G. Gonzalez, Yolanda Flores Niemann, and Gabriella Gutiérrez y Muhs, editors, Presumed Incompetent II: Race, Class, Power, and Resistance of Women in Academia (University Press of Colorado, 2020). This chapter was an invited contribution to what is already a highly acclaimed volume of essays from women faculty across disciplines who provide guidance on how to overcome obstacles faced in their professional lives.

Dale Carpenter was quoted in an article in the Dallas Morning News on April 10th in an article, “What would a regional lockdown in America look like? Curious Texas Investigates.”

James Coleman’s op-ed, “Texas should slow production to stop oil and gas waste,” was published in the Austin American Statesman on April 24th.  The article states the need for Texas to step up and preserve the value of oil and gas and stop economic and environmental waste.

Pam Metzger was quoted in the ABA Journal in an article, Pandemic power plays: Civil liberties in the time of COVID-19, on April 21st.  She also moderated the ABA’s rapid response webinar, “Lessons from Past Disasters: Criminal Justice Response to COVID-19,” which can be viewed here.  Pam was a panelist at the Project on Government Oversight’s briefing on Pretrial Detention and Access to Courts, “How to Safeguard Liberty and Justice During COVID-19,” which can be viewed here.  The Deason Center hosted two virtual research round tables on COVID-19 and Access to Justice in Small, Tribal, and Rural (STAR) Communities.  More than 60 scholars and justice advocates attended.  The session will be posted on the Deason Center’s website soon.

Anna Offit accepted an offer to publish her latest Article, Race-Conscious Jury Selection, in the Ohio State Law Journal. The Article will appear alongside a response essay from a prominent jury scholarAnna was also invited to join the SMU Faculty Senate’s Executive Committee.

Paul Rogers’ new edition of his Antitrust casebook was published this month by Carolina Press.  The title is “Rogers and Andersen, Antitrust Law: Policy and Practice”, (5th ed)(Carolina Press, 2020). 

Eric Ruben’sarticle,An Unstable Core: Self-Defense and the Second Amendment, was published in Volume 108 of the California Law Review.  On April 27th,Justice Samuel Alito cited anamicus brieffiled by Eric, along with Joseph Blocher (Duke Law) and Darrell Miller (Duke Law), in his dissent in the recent Supreme Court case,NYSRPA v. City of New York.  Eric was interviewed about the case in Annie McDonough, Ask the Experts: What does SCOTUS’ Second Amendment case mean for New York?, City & State New York (April 29, 2020).

Meghan Ryan’s article, Escaping the Fingerprint Crisis: A Blueprint for Essential Research, is forthcoming in the Illinois Law Review. She also has a piece forthcoming in the Nevada Law Journal, which is titled Secret Algorithms, IP Rights, and the Public Interest.

Marc Steinberg’s article, Insider Trading -- SEC v. Mark Cuban -- A Litigation Saga, was published (six months late) in 58 University of Louisville Law Review 1 (2019).  This article was delivered by Marc for the William Marshall Bullitt Memorial Lecturership at the Louis D. Brandeis School of Law at the University of Louisville on February 28, 2019.  

Jenia Turner received university-wide recognition being awarded a Ford Senior Research Fellowship for the 2020-21 academic year.  Ford Fellowships are given to SMU faculty based on the significance of a faculty member’s scholarly contributions and future research plans.
