Tony Burney

Tony Burney is the Research and Policy Analyst for the Deason Criminal Justice Reform Center, where he conducts data collection and analysis, legislative policy research, and case law research to support the Center’s work advancing systemic change in the criminal legal system.

Burney brings experience in criminal justice policy research, including conducting legislative policy scans, developing policy briefs, and tracking criminal justice reform legislation. As part of his academic work, he co-authored an award-winning research project that developed a comprehensive nationwide database of more than 28,000 policy indicators.

Burney holds a Master of Public Administration in Public Policy Analysis with a concentration in Social Justice from Texas A&M University’s Bush School of Government and Public Service and a Bachelor of Science in Sociology from Texas A&M University.
