Jamal Andress

Jamal Andress joined the Deason Criminal Justice Reform Center as a Communications Lead in February 2026. His role focuses on amplifying the Center’s research, policy and litigation work while executing its multi-platform communication strategy.
Prior to his work at the Deason Center, Andress spent more than a decade as a television journalist where he covered significant national stories with a focus on criminal and social justice. Andress was on the ground for the large-scale unrest following the murder of George Floyd and in the courtroom for the historic trials of Derek Chauvin, Alex Jones and Donald Trump.
Andress produced and hosted documentaries on reforms within the U.S. prison system. He also partnered with investigative outlets, including The Marshall Project and The Washington Post, to produce broadcast reporting on criminal justice issues. His work has highlighted how justice policy affects individuals, families and communities.
Andress is a graduate of the University of Missouri School of Journalism.
