  • Freddie Barela, EMBA 2015

    Partner, Canaan Resource Partners

    Freddie Barela commuted from Oklahoma City to Dallas to attend the Cox EMBA program. He felt like he’d hit a ceiling in his role as district landman at Chesapeake Energy Corporation. He wanted to grow — and help others grow. Goal accomplished! He was promoted to regional land manager at his job and soon after he graduated with his MBA, was named a partner at Canaan Resource. The icing: Freddie was also named Best EMBA by Poets & Quants.

    Chief investment officer at Quail Lake Capital Management

    After working for almost eight years as an investment banking professional, Matthew Ogle wanted to transition to private equity. Two years in the Cox EMBA program gave him the skills, knowledge and connections he needed. On graduating, Matt joined Crow Holdings Capital as managing director, and five years later he became chief investment officer at Quail Lake, a privately held family investment office. Matt also serves on the SMU Cox Associate Board of Directors.

    With an undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering from India and a Master’s in Computer Science, Sabrina Raja joined the educational arm of Texas Instruments as a software developer. Over more than a decade there, her focus shifted to the business side of EdTech, and eventually she decided to enroll at Cox. Today, she presides over Nepris, the innovative multi-award-winning company she co-founded to create virtual connections between classrooms and industry.
