SMU Participates in the Dallas Martin Luther King Jr. Day City-Wide Parade! Students, faculty and staff are encouraged and welcome to participate in the SMU float. Please email SCIE@smu.edu for more details. Transportation is provided.

 

CANDID CONVERSATIONS: ALL ABOUT MLK

How much do you really know about the life and legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr? How does his legacy impact your life? As part of Dream Week, join us for an evening of interaction and exploration. Ever played 20 Questions? Tonight, you will. And spoiler alert: all the questions about Dr. King and Civil Rights. Cohosted by the Student Senate Diversity and Inclusion Committee.

 

SMU UNITY WALK

Thursday, January 23 | 5:30 PM | Hughes-Trigg Theater

Gather with SMU President R. Gerald Turner and student leaders to participate in our annual Unity Walk. This time together is a great demonstration of our commitment as a university to the work of Dr. King. We will begin the program in the Hughes-Trigg Theater and then proceed to Bishop Boulevard for the commemorative walk.

MLK SERVICE

Friday, January 24 | Various Times + Locations

Join fellow Mustangs to participate in local service projects that honor the values of education and community building. Interested?

Uplift Heights Primary (located at 2202 Calypso Street, Dallas, TX 75212) is looking for volunteers to work in and organize their library. Please see the volunteer link below to sign up! You will need to create an account on their Voly site (uplift.voly.org) to get a background check processed and go through their media training in order to be able to sign up for this event. Register to serve with Uplift Heights Preparatory School here.

North Texas Food Bank (located at 3677 Mapleshade Ln, Plano, TX 75075) is looking for volunteers to work in their Distribution Center, sorting and packing food from 1PM-3:30PM on Friday, January 24. Please note that Distribution Center volunteers are required to wear closed-toe shoes. Volunteers wearing open-toe shoes will not be permitted into the Distribution Center. Register to serve with the North Texas Food Bank here.
