Summer Intern Need for First Presbyterian Church in downtown Dallas

Position Summary
The Summer Youth and Children Intern is a position designed to give a college student, young adult, or someone new to ministry, the opportunity to learn and serve at First Presbyterian Church of Dallas for 10 weeks over the summer months. Main duties include designing and implementing children and youth ministry program activities and service projects, working with volunteers, and completing work projects to support ministry at the church. This position includes an opportunity to engage with other parts of the FPC Dallas campus, including The Stewpot, FPC Developmental Day School, and Meal Services at The Bridge.
Essential Functions
• In collaboration with children and youth staff members, plan and lead children and youth service projects, social events, and other gatherings. Also, help design programming for the 2023-2024 program year.
• Assist with the leadership of Vacation Bible School and JAM Music Camp.
• Assist with the leadership of Stewpot children and youth summer programming.
• Participate in Day School chapel, children and youth mission projects, and other events.
• Lead children and youth events in the absence of children and youth staff and help manage volunteers, as needed.
• Attend committee meetings (Children’s Ministry, Youth Ministry, Faith Formation, etc.) to learn the process of planning and decision–making, as well as working with the committees as a team player to support volunteers and programs.
• Learn about the work and ministry at The Stewpot and serve in a variety of capacities (serving meals at The Bridge, helping with food distribution, etc.).
• Attend worship at least twice/month with opportunities to interact with church members.
• Meet with supervisor on a regular basis to report weekly activities and evaluate programs.
Other Functions
• Help with some classroom and administrative projects, as requested.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the children and youth staff.

Qualifications
• Successful completion of a criminal background check and child protection training as required for all adults working with children or youth at FPC Dallas. This includes reference checks with at least two people who are not related to the candidate.
• Ability to work successfully with teams and with people from a wide range of backgrounds and cultures.
• Committed to embodying the mission and values of FPC Dallas.
• Computer literacy and proficiency with MS Word, Outlook, and Excel.
Terms of Employment
A stipend of $500/week is available for this position with 20-25 hours/week. Expected start date is May 30, 2022 to last for a period of 10 weeks. This position is not eligible for benefits.
Other terms of employment will be administered in accordance with the policies contained in the FPC Dallas Employee Handbook, a copy of which is provided to each employee.

Essential Functions for FPC Dallas

• Promote DYM and other Youth Mission Co programs
• Hire, train, lead, and manage DYM summer interns in consultation with YMCo Executive

• Work with DYM Support Team to build up local fundraising strategies.
