Prerequisites for the AT&T Data Science Scholars Program

The AT&T Data Science Scholars Program consists of a complete and fast-paced curriculum that provides students with a thorough understanding of state-of-the-art data science tools and methods for real-world application with big data. Students in the AT&T Data Science Scholars Program are assumed to be familiar with linear and logistic regression and are assumed to have exposure in wrangling, visualizing and modeling with Python. To this end, students should meet the following prerequisites to apply:

 

At a minimum, students must have taken at least:

• One calculus course
• One coding course
• One statistics course

 

In addition, it is preferred that students meet the following requirements:

This program is for SMU students who are rising seniors or graduate students in Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, or Economics and Statistical Science; or are on an accelerated pathway in the Computer Science bachelor’s or master’s degree; or in SMU Cox’s BBA in BA & SCM or MSBS program. Students must be planning to enroll in courses undergraduate or graduate level courses in the fall semester following the internship program.

 

Students should have taken one of the following:

*The student may petition for the statistics prerequisite with a course or courses not on the list. Simply submit a syllabus of the course(s) with your application. The course(s) should cover linear and logistic regression.

If you need a refresher course, bridge courses will be available for enrollment in the spring semester.
