Some nationally competitive scholarships support study abroad programs. Winners of summer study abroad fellowships often go on to apply for, and win, post-graduate awards like the Fulbright Scholarships. Apply! It's great training for your future!
For more information, visit the website of the SMU Office of National Fellowships and Awards. SMU students applying for nationally competitive scholarships must submit their scholarship applications through that office, which also has past successful SMU applications on file for your review. There are many exciting awards available to support a variety of international opportunities, both during the college years and after. Deadlines for national scholarships are well in advance of the experience abroad, so plan ahead if you intend to apply!
The Fund for Education Abroad (FEA) is an independent study abroad scholarship provider which gives preference to students with demonstrated financial need. These groups include, but are not limited to, first-generation college students, minority students, and students with community college experience.
Diversity Abroad is organization which also seeks to increase access to international education. Visit their website to learn about scholarships for students of color, first-generation college students, students with disabilities, males, STEM students, and more.
