Mustang Spirit!
Mustang fans take pride in continuing SMU’s traditions, including Peruna, the school mascot, and “Varsity,” the school song.

Mustang mania
Once a Mustang, always a Mustang that’s what you’ll hear from SMU students and alumni alike. That's because SMU is steeped in tradition, pride, and spirit. There’s a spirit of community that starts before registration and extends beyond graduation. Gerald J. Ford Stadium (with Spirit Shop) rocks with spirit on football Saturdays. During the season everyone gathers on The Boulevard for food and fun before heading to the game.

Throughout the year our spirit also shines during Family Weekend, Homecoming, the holiday Celebration of Lights, and during everyone's favorite Spring Block Party.

Colorful academic traditions and ceremonies welcome students into the SMU community during Rotunda Passage and Opening Convocation, and launch graduates as proud alumni at commencement ceremonies and Rotunda Processional.

School song “Varsity”

Oh we see the Varsity, Varsity, Varsity,
As she towers o'er the hill over there.
And our hearts are filled with joy, SMU, SMU,
Alma Mater, we'll be true forever.
