Scholar Requirements
As a Turner Scholar, there are distinct requirements for all four years. The requirements are designed to foster young adult and collegiate development each academic year.
The RISE Institute
After moving in, scholars will attend an orientation program known as The RISE Institute.
UNIV 2349
Scholars are required to take UNIV 2349 during their first academic year. We highly recommend students take UNIV during the fall semester, as is often most beneficial for students earlier on. UNIV 2349 is a psychology based class designed to support students in developing problem solving skills and resilience.
Academic Success Meetings
Scholars are required to complete a monthly one-on-one Academic Success meeting, completing 3 per semester for a total of 6 for the academic year. Discussion topics during these meetings vary per student but will likely include academics, overall adjustment, and resources.
Peer Counselor Meetings
Scholars are required to complete 1 monthly one-on-one Peer Counselor meeting, completing 3 per semester for a total of 6 for the academic year. Discussion topics during these meetings vary per student but will likely include academics and peer support.
Study Hall
Scholars are required to complete 2 hours of study hall per week during the academic year. All study hall hours are tracked through an online program. Scholars can swipe in to obtain their hours in the Academic Center for Excellence (ACE), A-LEC, or Scholars Den.
Event Credits
Scholars are required to complete 8 event credits for the academic year. Events must contain a cultural, academic, or professional component. At the beginning of every month, scholars will be emailed a list of pre-approved events. Credit for events outside of the pre-approved list are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
Academic Success Meetings
Scholars are required to complete 2 Academic Success meetings per semester for a total of 4 for the academic year. Discussion topics during these meetings vary per student but will likely include academics, career planning, and resources.
Peer Upperclassman Liaison Meetings
Scholars are required to complete a monthly Peer Upperclassman Liaison meeting, completing 3 per semester for a total of 6 for the academic year. Discussion topics during these meetings vary per student but will likely include academics and peer support.
Study Hall
Scholars may be required to complete 2 hours of study hall per week during the academic year depending on completed credit hours and cumulative GPA. All study hall hours are tracked through an online program. Scholars can swipe in to obtain their hours in the Academic Center for Excellence (ACE), A-LEC, or Scholars Den.
Event Credits
Scholars are required to attend 1 Turner Specialty Event per semester. Scholars will obtain 2 event credits total for the academic year.
Career Development
Scholars are required to visit the Hegi Career Center to create or revise their resume. Additionally, scholars may be required to visit the Hegi Career Center for a mock interview depending on completed credit hours and cumulative GPA.
Academic Success Meetings
Scholars are required to complete an Academic Success Meeting per semester for a total of 2 for the academic year. Discussion topics during these meetings vary per student, but will likely include academics, career, and associated life skills.

Scholars may be required to complete 2 hours of study hall per week during the academic year depending on completed credit hours and cumulative GPA. All study hall hours are tracked through an online program. Scholars can swipe in to obtain their hours in the Academic Center for Excellence (ACE), A-LEC, or Scholars Den.
Event Credits
Scholars are required to attend 1 exclusive career or networking opportunity.
Career Development
Scholars are required to visit the Hegi Career Center to discuss post graduation plans.
Office Hours
Office hours will be hosted for scholars to receive support on an as-needed basis.
Senior Cord Reception
Scholars will have the opportunity to celebrate their amazing accomplishments and prepare for graduation through a cording ceremony with the Turner Scholars Program, faculty, staff, friends, and family.
