Limited Submission Proposals
A limited submission is a funding opportunity in which the sponsor restricts how many proposals a single institution may submit. When a cap exists, the university cannot forward every interested PI’s application; instead, we run an internal selection process to choose which proposal(s) will be allowed to go forward. Sponsors may use limited submissions to:
- To maintain a manageable review process
- To prevent institutions from submitting multiple competing proposals
- To ensure equitable access to high-value funding opportunities
- To encourage institutions to coordinate and prioritize their strongest projects
Notification of Limited Submission Opportunities
When Sponsored Projects receives notification of a proposal with Limited Submission, the Director of Sponsored Projects will provide the research community with guidance on the limited submission internal competition process as well as the following information:
- Agency
- Web link
- RFP
- Title
- Submission Deadline
Researchers interested in submitting to the limited opportunity will be required to provide a brief summary of their project and a rough budget estimate via email to sponsoredprojects@smu.edu. Responses will be compiled and reviewed by the Office of Research and Innovation or designees. Applicants will be notified regarding which project(s) were selected to proceed with full submission via email.
