Overview

Horton Foote: Photographs and Manuscripts provides a sample of the photographs, images, albums, and more, relating to American author and playwright Horton Foote (March 14, 1916 – March 4, 2009) that are held by SMU's DeGolyer Library. These items depict Horton Foote's life and career.

Collection Materials

SMU's Horton Foote papers, 1838-2011, comprises approximately 276 linear feet of material documenting the career of the Academy Award winning screenwriter and Pulitzer Prize winning playwright. The collection includes manuscripts, scrapbooks, handwritten drafts of screenplays, diaries, letters, photographs, and family memorabilia of the Wharton, Texas, native who spent over 60 years in film, stage, and television.

The digital collection contains a variety of images and photographs of Horton Foote, his family, and his career. Also available online is a digitized file of the kinescope, A Young Lady of Property. Some images are only available on campus at SMU due to copyright restraints.

Items in SMU Libraries Digital Collections are digitized following the nCDS Digitization Guidelines and Procedures. Digital collections are created under the guidelines of the Digital Collections Workflow and Metadata Guidelines, or through specialized metadata profiles tailored for the collection.
